How is it like to live in America? I love living here and that’s probably because it’s the only country I’m familiar with. I’d love to live in Europe for a few years though, maybe when I’m older.
Where do you get your confidence and inspiration from to just be yourself and let the world know you don’t really care otherwise? Ever since I was a little girl, my mom has always taught me that people only see what you allow them to see. If you’re always pointing out your flaws and failures, then that’s what people are going to concentrate on.
How often do you use a thesaurus? Haha! You know I actually use to read the thesaurus/dictionary a lot back in the day, not even joking.
Do you have any body parts you wish you could change? I have to admit, there are some days where I wish my legs were a little less muscular and a bit more “feminine” (if that’s the right word).
Do you ever get self-conscious about your outfits? You know, when I first started dating my boyfriend, I would avoid wearing anything too crazy because I was afraid of what he would think. Now, I don’t really care because he accepts me.
What happened to SPG? We all sort of went our separate ways after being together for a year or so.
What would you say/do if I saw you in person and suddenly came up to you? Well when people have come up to me because they recognized me from my blog, I’m kind of bashful at first but then I’m like “ Oh hi! I’m Karla!” and they’re like “Uhh I know that.” It’s funny.
Does your head ever get big because of all the wonderful comments people send you? I appreciate everyones super sweet comments, but I never dwell on them. My parents have always kept me grounded and I thank them for that because never in a million years would I want to be considered one of those “she thinks she’s all that and a bag of chips”-kind-of-girl.
Do you ever criticize people because of their clothing? I am indeed a little guilty of that. I think it’s because I’m so into fashion- just like a chef will criticize a restaurant’s menu or how an architect will express disapproval upon a building that was thoughtlessly constructed.
What blogs do you religiously read? Garance Dore, The Sartorialist, Style Bubble, Knight Cat, Kingdom of Style, Post Secret, and Fashion Toast.
Aren’t you tired of red nail polish? Aw I smiled :) I love red nail polish because for some reason it matches everything but lately I’ve been toying with fuchsia nail polish, it’s pretty!
What were you like when you were a teenager? I always attempted (attempted being the keyword) to look somewhat put together, but I definitely wasn’t as into fashion as I am now.
Are your friends as stylish as you are? Of course! Although they dress much more casual than I do.
Have you had plastic surgery? Or would you in the future? Nope, I haven’t had any plastic surgery and I’m not planning on it in the future, but I just might get some nice big silicone breasts... just kidding.
Were you on Dance Revolution with a group called the Slumber Party Girls and how old were you? Yes, it was three years ago, I was 16.
Do you still sing? Of course! I’ve been singing since I was like three.
Do you have any tips for those that are less adventurous but still want to look fabulous and original? I would start out with neutral colors (black, white, gray) and slowly start adding bold color to your wardrobe- something like a cobalt blue or a mustard yellow. Play around with detailing- for example, try a black blazer with some nice cloverleaf lapels or embossed buttons. You’re not being a fashion daredevil, but at the same time, you don’t have your average black blazer. Hope I helped!
When you go shopping do you look for a piece in particular or do you just see what fun stuff you can find and just go for it? Ever since I can remember I’ve always created a simple list of items to look out for when I’m shopping (i.e. white babydoll dress, fur scarf, embellished clutch, etc), but sometimes I just find a piece that I MUST have and purchase it without knowing whether or not it’ll go with anything I already own.
What are your hobbies? I love reading (mysteries and thrillers especially), dancing (another passion of mine and part of my craft), driving (I love driving alone), and playing board games (I’m pretty much a pro when it comes to Scattergories).
How long does it take you to chose what you’re going to wear? Some days I just put something on real quick, other times I stand in front of my closet for at least 15 minutes trying to figure out what I should wear.
How many pairs of shoes do you have? I’ve never counted actually! Maybe like 60 pairs? I don’t wear all of them though.
When will you do another video blog? Hopefully soon :)
Who takes your pictures? My mom, dad, or boyfriend.
What skin care products do you use? I use Neutrogena’s foam face wash as a make-up remover as well as their oil-free moisturizer, it’s the only that hydrates my dry skin without making it look oily.
Favorite book? All-time favorite book is Loves Music, Loves to Dance by Mary Higgins Clark.
What is your favorite cake? Blueberry cheesecake (homemade by my mom), tres leches, and tiramisu cheesecake.
What do you think about celebrities with their own clothing line? To be honest, SOME of them bother me- all they do is stamp their name on the clothing label without having a clue about the merchandising or manufacturing process.
If a fairy or someone like that gave you $10,000 you have to spend on clothes, what would you buy first? I was going to say shoes, but that wouldn’t be considered clothing. I’d probably find a way to buy the criss-cross paneled mesh Valentino dress I posted about last week.
When you buy something do you first visualize it before getting it? Sometimes I do, sometimes I don’t. For example, I bought some fringe trousers without knowing whether or not they’d be incorporated seamlessly into my wardrobe. Then I bought a pair of platforms because I knew I wanted to wear it with some of my dresses/leggings.
Where is your family from? My mom is Mexican and my dad is Central American.
How do you know when a piece that is too big will tailor properly [or] how much bigger than your size will you buy something to tailor? Actually the only thing I’ve ever had tailored is my leather bomber and a purple blazer that sadly never ended up making a debut on the blog.
Any suggestions/tips on what to tell a tailor? I pre-pinned my jacket/blazer so that the tailor would know how much I wanted them taken in. Also, I made sure I thoroughly explained to her what I wanted so that it’d fit me according to personal preference. Hope this helped!
How is your relationship with God like? I’d like to say that it’s constantly growing. I talk to God a lot throughout the day, rather than reserve a certain time frame for Him. He’s continually blessing me, even when I don’t deserve any of it. I love Him :)
Why don’t you put a video with your make up process in the blog? Maybe I will someday, although I think it’d be awfully boring and funny because I do my makeup with my mouth wide open. Odd.
What brings you peace and joy? God, family, and friends. And the thought that even through my worries and troubles, I could be in much worst situations.
What’s the perfect day for you? Whenever I’ve accomplished everything I had on my “to-do” list.
What were you like in high school and how are you different compared to the woman you are today? I was never one of those party girls, I’d daydream and write lyrics during Chemistry, and I got dentention several times for violating the school dress code. As soon as I got out of high school, I was sort of forced to grow up quickly. I learned that building a career and working towards it is way more important. Oh wow now I sound like a 40 year old mom or something.
What is your favorite type of food? I love soups- everything from broccoli and cheese to the most delicious soup ever, my mom’s famous tortilla soup.
Do you read a lot of non-fashion blogs? What kinds? I LOVE Post Secret!
When you buy a new item, do you go straight home and try it on with everything else you own? Actually no! Ha, how weird. Most of the time it sits there until I decide to wear it.
I love fashion - but sometimes it feels it's so meaningless in the face of all the hardship in the world and especially in the hard times that are approaching. so my question is - do you ever have moments when you feel like this is all inconsequential? Yes definitely. Fashion is my passion, but I put it in perspective- there are other things way more important in my life: family, health, etc.
How did you end up with the Slumber Party Girls? I was at this performing arts academy and at recital, the CEO of Geffen Records heard me sing and I got signed to his label as one of the SPGs.
Are you rich/normal with money, or are you a poor student? I don’t really like talking about finances :)
Do you watch the Hills? I used to watch it avidly but I didn’t watch any of the last season.
Do you sometimes leave the door, when you don’t feel 100% sure about you’re outfit? Yea, but I’m always too lazy to go back and change!
Do you think that people can work in the fashion industry when they aren’t pretty? Of course, why not?
Do you make any effort to “go green” with your outfits/recycle etc? I try!
Do you ever feel like a mindless consumer? What do you mean by “mindless consumer”?
Can we see more of your boyfriend? Of course, I’ll ask him to make more special appearances.
Have you met another blogger? I ran into Gerie from Because I’m Addicted awhile back.
Which blogger do you most wish to meet? It’d pretty cool to meet Scott Schuman from The Sartorialist!
Do you have any sneakers or sport shoes? Yes, a whole rack of them. I wear Nike dunks whenever I travel. So comfortable.
How often do you shower? Everyday, but I wash my hair every other day.
Did some blogger ever recognize you on the streets? Yes indeed!
What do you wear when you’re seriously just ‘lounging’ and haven’t gotten dressed for the day yet? Usually a robe. I love robes.
How much do you weigh? 115 lbs
im 14 and i really wish i could dress more like you but i feel shy around my friends who dress really boring and laugh any time i mention anything slightly ahead of fashion. Where do you get your confidence? I actually, like you, used to mind it when my friends would comment negatively on what I wore, but I learned that making ME happy is more important than trying to please someone else- If I like what I’m wearing then who cares what everyone else thinks, right?
what advice can you give to someone wanting a style like yours with a slim budget? Try and buy versatile pieces; a black blazer, a pair of skinny jeans, and simple white tees. Shop at thrift shops- you can always find hidden treasures for like two dollars.
Are any of your nearest and dearest friends as avid about fashion and blogging as you are and do they have blogs too? Not all my friends are crazy about fashion, I have friends that enjoy doing other things. I have other interests too, you know? And no, none of them blog.
...How did you learn [Spanish]? It was the first language I was taught.
If you could only wear one color for the rest of your life, what would it be? Black of course!
What perfume do you use? Vera Wang.
How do you hide your bra when you're wearing the double u-necks or the leotards from AA? Simple: I don’t wear one!
Are those Michael Kors duck boots cosiliy and/ or warm? They’re comfortable once you wear them in, and they’re good for the rain!
Do those Marc by Marc Jacobs skater style boots you have come up true to size or are they a bit big or small? They run a bit small. I got mine a half size bigger.
Have you ever got your heart broken? Yes I have. But like they say, it’s better to have loved and lost, then have never loved at all.
What’s your favorite movie? All the Audrey Hepburn films and P.S. I Love You.
What would you not want to be found dead in? True Religions and pointed boots.
If you could be a guy for one day, who would you want to be? “If I were a boyyy!!”... Chris Brown just because he’s an incredible dancer/performer.
Biggest pet peeve in fashion and biggest pet peeve in general? When people wear super unflattering sweat pants... and they’re not going to the gym. My biggest pet peeve in general is people drive slow. FYI, I have major road rage.
Favorite makeup? Revlon’s “Not Just Nude” cream shadows.
Biggest fashion inspiration? Audrey Hepburn.
Favorite place to travel to? I really love Hawaii and New York.
Guilty pleasures? Eating obscene amounts of chocolate and spending too much time at Target.
How do you manage to walk around in heels every day, do you get taxis everywhere? I’ve just gotten use to wearing heels. And here we don’t use taxis like New York does. I love taxis though, I wish we had them in LA.
Do you ever dress like a character in a film or take inspiration from a novel, if so who? I once bought a dress quite similar to the one Audrey Hepburn wore in Breakfast at Tiffanys because I was so in love with that movie.
How much time do you spend on this blog and don’t you ever think “ Wow I can’t really be bothered”? It takes about half an hour or so to publish a post. And sometimes I’m so caught up in school work and things that I neglect the blog for a day or so, but I really always try to post!
Where do you live? I live in Simi Valley, California.
Are you ever coming up to SF? Hopefully! Last time I was there I was like two.
What kind of lipstick/lipgloss are you using these days? I use Rosebud Salve lip balm all day everyday.
And how do you deal with family/friends criticizing or making negative comments about your style (if that ever occurs)? They’re kind of used the way I dress. Sometimes my dad says I should stop dressing like I’m “going to Paris Fashion week” or something, he’s just being silly though.
What do your parents do for a living? My dad owns a business and my mom works in the medical field.
What kind of eyeliner do you use? Make Up For Ever Aqua Eyes liner.
Do you know any stores similar to Forever 21/H&M? Maybe Zara?
Shoe size? 7.5-8
Do you ever feel overdressed? What would be appropriate for grocery shopping or going to the library? Apparently, I’m always overdressed which means I wear heels even to the market so I’m probably not the right person to ask about what one should wear when grocery shopping haha!
When wearing dresses/skirts how do you determine how short is too short and how do you pull it off? If I can see my underwear, then it’s way too short. I usually wear tights with short skirts/dresses.
What is your favorite cartoon? Tom and Jerry!
Your style is always so consistent, do you ever try different styles like grunge when in the mood? I’d like to think I incorporate other styles into “my” style, but I always stick with pieces I feel most comfortable with.
Still a few more questions to answer but I tried to answer almost all of them in this post.

karla, i love post secret too. have you ever read the love and relationship post secret book? i read it the other day waiting to do a manicure and i started crying in the salon. i'm such a loser. but, you reminded me to add it to my xmas wish list. :)
yay for Hawai'i and new york - the only two places I ever exist in ♥
well I really love your consciousness for style. but you need to change that layout picture on the top, because you look so much better and unique with the short hair-cut.
well you should really come to Europe. The people are different from you Americans and have a very different way of life. But that is it, that makes travelling interesting, isn't it...
What kind of car do you drive? Just curious.
can you please post some pictures of your 'inspiration board' sometime in the near future?
you have the most interesting blogs!!!
Love Brakfast at Tiffany, too
I just discover your blog, really cool. ^_^

I loved this post! Best parts...Finding out I can steal your shoes (I'm a 7.5-8 too!) and imagining you singing Beyonce. That made me laugh out loud (for realz).
Well Done! =D
Read this new swedish blog! There's an translationdevice, translate and read :) It's not the best translation but hopefully you'll understand anyway :)
hi karla!
love your blog~ =)
i saw the videos on youtube of the slumber party girls. it made me laugh because it is very teenage girl age. ^^
i don't know if you'll be able to answer my questions since..i think you've gotten plenty.
but i was wondering, do you think that some skin tone colors clash with clothing colors? (of course I don't think anyone would go wrong with black and white). My skin tone is more yellow, so when I wear certain colors like yellow, orange and green(with a few exceptions in shades) i tend to look really yellow.
"Why don’t you put a video with your make up process in the blog? Maybe I will someday, although I think it’d be awfully boring and funny because I do my makeup with my mouth wide open. Odd."
Hahaha. I do the exact same thing for some strange reason. hehe.
http://www.darkrevolver.blogspot.com/
WAIT! one more please--
actually I haven't read all of them yet so I hope nobody has asked this yet. What Were You Like in High School? (Meaning, were you impossibly stylish etc?)
that's awesome that u were in SJP. love u! =]
That's hilarious!
I remember coming across the Texting Song on YouTube about a year ago, and now I find out it was you! Ahhh, I'm dying.
I've really enjoyed reading ALL your answers.
You're talented :)
you honestly are five four and 115 pounds only? yeah right
oh gosh you have a great style! there isn't any much to say. you should be a designer. i'm not sure if you are going for it..well I just have to say that I say that question about croatia and...I'm a Croat so have to say that it's probably too small for some partying and similar stuff. when I'm going on holiday (with my parents cause I'm 17 :(( ) I'm almost always going on island and I enjoy it but wouldn't suggest it to some american...you wouldn't like it..
Hey Karla, I love your blog. I am an avid reader. What to you think of Victoria Beckham and Miley Cyrus? and What's you favourite coffee table book?
Menudo peso me acabas de quitar de encima!!
Ahora que sé que hablas español no tendré que pararme a pensar si lo que te escribo estará perfectamente bien escrito en ingles ^^
un alivio!!
1beso!!
karla, I had no idea you were half mexican! where from mexico is your mom from? both of my parents are from monterrey!
Karla, I honestly love reading your regular blog posts as much as your fashion posts...after reading this, I realized you're a really blessed and talented person. Many girls would love to be in your shoes. I love the fact you're so close with your family, and them being supportive of what you do is the biggest encouragement anyone can get to do whatever they want to do. I don't stay in America, don't have great family conditions like you do,don't think I am that talented, but I have a relationship with God too, which makes up for everything that I don't, and I'm glad you do too.
Hey Karla can you put some pictures of your bedroom on your blog?
What do you think of Rachel Bilson
u know that Europe is not a country, right? you wrote that the us is the only country you are familiar with, and the that you would like to live in europe for a couple of years. europe is a continent, not a country and the countries in europe are all sooo different. lovely in their own ways, but very different from eachother. you should really go live here though, its my favourite continent ;)
I'm loving these question and answer posts! :)
i love youre blog, you sound like the sweetest. and you really inspired me with the quote your mommy gave you about ppl see what you let them see. well thank you for that bc sometimes i forget to be myself and let the dark clouds cover my bright personality. i met a man here in miami and he lives in paris so he went back but we still keep contact. the only thing is knowing he was so different, i knew he expected other things from me. i kind of turn off my switch of "being me" and started to act as if i was a sad soul. i think i sacred him off . we talk almost everyday but his view of me isnt what i want. i will be going to visit him in paris in march but now his dating a girl. so meaning it wont be as easy but i am up for it ,he invited me and i will simply just be myself. thank you so much for that!
bisous
grety
